The 2016 presidential campaign has been long and arduous. Former Governor Jim Webb (D-VA) formed an exploratory committee to test the waters for a presidential run on 20 November 2014. Over a dozen other candidates followed suit, forming political action and exploratory committees to test the water for a potential presidential run.

Seven hundred and twenty days later we are hours away from having a winner. But how did we get here? The timeline below provides a window into one of the most dramatic, chaotic, and longest election cycles in the world.
