Photo Gallery: Humans of the 2016 election

Embarrassed. Useless. Concerned.  Just a few of the words used by people in London to describe how the 2016 US Presidential Election has made them feel.

We asked people of different ages and different backgrounds to write down a single word that described their feelings towards the US election.  A similar theme ran throughout the responses: disapproval.

Some were hesitant and found it difficult to use only one word. Others even took pity on America. Trevor, 67, said: “Well really, I feel sorry for the Americans.”

So which candidate was the preferred choice? The majority favoured Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump, though most were not thrilled about her as a future president either. Colin, 77, said: “They’re both useless. Neither of them are qualified.”
